The CEC has no budget for extraordinary elections, Elez: It will require funds to organize them

The Central Election Commission will have to seek a budget from the Kosovo government if the country is to go to extraordinary elections.

Keeping new parliamentary elections after failing to form the Government is seen as an inevitable path, but for their organisation, the election institution has no budget in account.

CEC spokesman Valmir Elezi has said that in such cases when unplanned elections occur, the institution will act as in past cases.

The Central Election Commission has no budgetary means planned for a new election process, which is not planned. Therefore, if there are elections, the CEC will in time prepare the budgetary requirement, which will be forwarded to the Government of Kosovo for approval. The CEC has done so in other cases when we have had early elections or that occurred in a non-election year”, Elez said.

On the other hand, Elez has indicated that the CEC remains committed to fulfilling the constitutional mandate if the elections will be announced.

“concerned with discussions of new elections for the Kosovo Assembly, The CEC has indicated the position that, as we have said every time, the Central Election Commission remains committed to meeting its constitutional and legal obligations, at any moment when an electoral process is formally announced”, Elesi said.

He recalled that the CEC is currently committed to closing the 12 October elections and organising the second round.

“Actually, the CEC is engaged in completing the process of the October 12th local elections and holding preparations for the second round of mayors' elections to be held on November 9th”, he said./Periscopi/
