British Ambassador Hargrees: Today is a big day for democracy in Kosovo

The ambassador of Great Britain to Kosovo, Jonathan Hargrees, has positively praised the participation of citizens in the local elections being held in the country today, naming today an important moment for democracy in Kosovo. He has said it is encouraging to see the participation of all communities in the election process. [...]
He has said it is encouraging to see the participation of all communities in the election process. He was also asked about the vote organised by the Serbian List.
It's been a wonderful day so far. We were at several polling stations in northern Kosovo and now here in Drenas. It is good to see many people participating in these choices. It is really important that people from all different communities come out and vote. From what we've seen so far, people are participating very well. This is the best thing we can hope for. It will be a long day, but a big day for the continued development of democracy in Kosovo,” Ambassador Hargrees for Online Economy during the visit to the “Resim Kichina” polling station in the Drensa municipality.
Asked about the voting process organised by the Serb List in the northern part of Kosovo, which has been described as violating the rules, Hargreets said that the assessment of the procedure's legitimacy is not in its mandate, but stressed the importance of citizens voting freely and representatives believing they would serve better.
“won't comment whether this was inside or outside the law. It's not for me to comment. I think it's a good thing that people from all different communities in the country are voting today. Of course, in recent local elections they did not participate, so it is very important that they have voted this time. It will be up to the Election Commission and others to assess whether all procedures have been followed or not. But I think the most important thing, basically, is for people to vote freely for those who want to represent and for those who think they can serve better as individuals in their communities,” said Hargrees.
He made that statement during his visit to the Drinas municipality, where he observed the voting process at the “Centre Rasim Kichina”.
