Albin Kurti's dark warning: We can maintain power without a state of emergency

We're going to be able to take power without a state of emergency, and maybe we can't even keep it without a state of emergency for a while.” These are the words of Albin Kurt, himself written by his hand on page 45 of a document that he distributed to a close group [...]

These are the words of Albin Kurti himself, written in his hand, on page 45 of a document he distributed to a close group of Vetevendosje activists.

It is a single but shocking statement thrown into an internal document in 2017 today sounds like a dark warning to what is happening in front of our eyes from March 2025.

Today, this document is no longer a reminder of the past, it is the manual of absolute power being implemented step by step in the Republic of Kosovo.

The government “Kurti 2” has crossed the borders of each democratic rating. Her ministers appear in the Assembly as deputies, vote as part of the legislature, to move to the next building, just a few metres further, and sit on government chairs as part of the executive.

A “functioning”, completely unconstitutional, has not been seen or heard in any democratic state. But this situation is no problem for Kurt and Vetevendosje.

This is the core of the state of emergency “that Kurti had planned much earlier, not for national security, but for the security of his power.

A power that feeds on crisis, that survives division and requires tension to justify its existence.

Since 2020, when Albin Kurti sat in the prime minister's chair for the first time, Kosovo has not recognised institutional calm.

Conflicts with trade unions, clashes with teachers and doctors, laws that conflict with the Constitution, attacks on independent institutions, all of these are not political accidents, but long-standing and planned by Kurti and his party.

Part of a larger project with a simple but devastating title: “the state of emergency”.

From March 27th through October 31st 2025, the Republic of Kosovo has spent 208 days under the shadow of “the state of emergency”.

A long period, extended without transparency, without borders, with no clear intention but one: to retain power at any cost.

Today, he and some of his ministers have been certified as deputies, but that has not been an obstacle, no dilemma.

In the morning they swear as deputies in the Assembly, at noon they vote as ministers in Government, and still return as deputies to vote themselves as part of the new government.

This is an institutional absurdity that is opening the foundations of the Republic of Kosovo./Periscopi/
