Afghanistan and Pakistan, involved in fighting that has killed dozens of people and injured hundreds, pledged Sunday to respect a ceasefire.
The truce, mediated by Qatar and Turkey, went into effect immediately and aims to stop hostilities, reports the Associated Press.
Violence has escalated among neighbours since the beginning of this month, with each country saying it is responding to aggression from the other. Afghanistan denies that it houses militants who conduct attacks in border areas.
Pakistan has been facing militantism that has increased since 2021, when the Taliban took over Afghanistan and returned to power.
The principal spokesman for the Taliban government, Zubiullah Mujahed, gave a positive answer to the outcome of the talks that took place in Qatar's capital, Doha, the day before.
He said the two countries had signed a bilateral agreement./Periscopi/
