Cameroon's 92-year-old president has won an eighth controversial mandate in a highly controversial election.
Paul Biya, who is the oldest head of state in the world, won 53.7% of the vote, compared to 35.2% of opposition leader Issa Tchiroma Bakary, the Constitutional Council said.
Before the announcement, Tchiroma Bakary a former Biyas coalition insisted it had won the election, but Cameroon's Democratic People's Movement (CPDM) the ruling party dismissed his claim, the BBC writes.
The elections, held on 12 October, have been associated with deadly violence, and in recent days hundreds of Tchiroma Bakary supporters have challenged the bans on protests in several towns and have clashed with security forces. /Periscopi/
