A court in Oldenburg, Germany, has begun trial of six people, two of whom are Albanians, two Romanians and two Colombians, charged with international drug trafficking and illegal access to Germany, according to Bild. According to the indictment, the group had planned an operation to extract 184kg of cocaine from the end of a Brazilian ship, “Tiger South”, which was anchored at the port of Brake in March this year, broadcast Euronews. al

They had met in February in Spain and Portugal to carry out the plan. To realize the drug extraction from part of the ship's body, the accused used sophisticated diving devices usually used by the army and police, including byrebreather, underwater scooter, and advanced diving gear.

Three of the accused -- one of whom was Albanian, professional divers -- were tasked with disassociating the ship's seabox screws to extract six package cocaine, worth up to 18m euros.

The plan failed after diving into the Unterweser River, an alarm on the ship forced them to withdraw. Police were waiting on the shore, which, according to Bild, had received information from international partners and had been following the group for weeks. All six were arrested in the country, while drugs were later seized by authorities.

If defendant Romeo-Paul W. (65-year-old), Dan L. (38-year-old), Ammando B. (41-year-old), Ionel D. (39-year-old), Roberto E. (53-year-old) and Oscar M. (38-year-olds) plead guilty, risk sentences ranging from 4 to 7 years in prison. /Periscope/
