According to the governor's statement, an Afghan man who survived the disaster and managed to swim to the mainland raised the alarm for the tragedy, Reuters reports.
He reported that 18 persons had been launched on the boat, but it took water and sank. Another survivor was later found on Celeby Island Island Island, near Bodrum.
The search-saving operation continues, with four coast guard ships, a diving team and a helicopter in action to find other irregular immigrants considered missing.
The Aegean Sea is one of the main transit routes for thousands of immigrants who try to cross from North Africa and the Middle East to Europe through Turkey, which houses millions of refugees.
