The president-elect, who was found guilty of 34 crimes, was sentenced to unconditional release in New York.

Donald Trump will avoid prison time for his criminal sentence in the Bos-Money case in New York, establishing a judge Friday, marking a dramatic and anti-climatic development in historical criminal procedures, days before he returns to the White House.

The judge who led Trump's trial, Juan Merchan, handed sentence “unconditionally released”, which means the elected president will be released without fine, imprisonment or trial for his sentence on 34 counts of counterfeiting business documents. At the same time Trump will not face any punishment other than this legal ethics.

Trump, who has his inauguration date as president on January 20th, is the first American president, whether former president or current president, who faces a criminal trial, leaves a verdict of guilt and subsequent punishment. Trump was found guilty on 30 May 2024 of counterfeiting business documents in order to commit another crime.

Manhattan County Attorney's Office, Alvin Bragg, argued Trump had falsely recorded the atonement he made to his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, to pay $130,000 for the movie star to raise Stormy Daniels, so that she would keep her mouth shut for an alleged sexual connection with what was then a candidate. Trump recorded these write-downs for Cohen as “legalization” in financial documents.

State prosecutors claimed during the trial that these frauds were aimed at concealing the violation of New York's election law, which prohibits the promotion of every person in a post through illegal means. They said illegal means were payment for Daniels, whom they considered an illegal contribution to the election campaign.

They argued that this payment was a guarantee of Trump's potential, due to other allegations of indecent behavior, as some damaging reports of his treatment of women had appeared several weeks before election day. This payment exceeded the $2,700 legal limit for individual contributions to the election campaign.
