Trump wants US to dominate artificial intelligence industry

President-elect Donald Trump and the company's head of Softbank, Masayosi Son, made an important announcement. I am excited to announce that Softbank will invest $100 billion in the United States, creating at least 100,000 jobs for Americans. This will help make artificial intelligence, developing technologies and future industries create, build and develop in the United States”, President-elect Donald Trump said.

Inventions in the field of artificial intelligence are moving at a fast pace, driven partly by the popularity of programmes such as Chat GPT, which are trained using large amounts of text data to produce a new content.

But the skills of this seemingly unlimited technology raise questions about regulatory norms and security.

The Voice of America spoke with law and ethics professor at the Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania,

President Trump's “Administration has been very clear that it wants to eliminate many of the regulations imposed by President Biden's administration for artificial intelligence. Saying they're going to tear this technology apart to win a plea against China in this field and lead the world”.

During a meeting for artificial intelligence in New York, those present expressed enthusiasm for the future of technology but also the desire for policies and standards that will help alleviate possible damage from it.

“Companies want to understand how to avoid problems in cases where technology is unilateral and does not function as projected”, says Professor Werbach.

Entrepreneur Jaye Watts points to calls for transparency by both creators and companies known for the development and distribution of electronic games.

“The companies are being forced to say how they use artificial intelligence, unlike how they used it before, by taking resources somewhere and in some cases by violating someone's rights”.

Providing training of artificial intelligence models with quality data is ideal, but developers do not always have access to such data. Oshin Anand is with firm “Saye”

When you use a pretrained version of a high-capacity model, even if you make improvements, you have no control over the massive amount of data from which it is trained. There may be improvements, but there is no concept to undo that process”.

Experts suggest including measurements and standards to assess the productivity of an artificial intelligence programme, which they hope will promote business.

“So trust can be advanced and developed”, says Oshin Anand with Sahaj firm.

Others fear that a harsh regulatory approach can harm innovations and competition.

Jiajun Lu is the founder of the Acol, which produces videos and audio using artificial intelligence.

If some countries are more aggressive about rules and some are not, then companies will move to those places. Artificial intelligence is a field in which each country seeks victory, so countries will harmonise their regulations”.

While artificial intelligence marks advances, human intelligence must set the right balance between innovations and order.
