Shaheen's warning comes after Secretary of State Marco Rubio suggested setting a huge reward for catching Taliban leaders, implying that the number of American hostages may be higher than reported.
Last week, Afghan authorities released two Americans, Ryan Corbet and William McKenty, in exchange for a Taliban member convicted of drugs and terrorism. Meanwhile, reports speak of stopping at least two other Americans. Rubio has sought a harsh response to the situation, citing the possibility of a greater reward than he did for bin Laden.
Taliban have yet to publish the exact number of foreign detainees, while tensions between the two sides remain high.
