He has made these statements after a meeting in Vienna with Austrian Chancellor Carl Nehammer, also conservative, so the two men have called for the European Union to step up efforts to fight illegal migration.
Increasing support for far-right parties in Europe has resulted in advancing migration through political agendas.
EU leaders have said in October that they are analyzing a scheme under which migrants who do not have the right to stay in the European bloc are being sent through several centres considered safe outside EU territory.
Christersson has said he has discussed the scheme with EU Commissioner for Migration Magnus Brunner, who has assured that the proposal will be finalised this spring.
There's a kind of momentum now”, Christersson said.
Nehammer has commended Christersson for keeping the migration issue high in the EU agenda, and currently there are 18 states within the Zone for free movement, Schengen, including Switzerland and Norway, who have common interest in fighting the migration wave.
The Austrian Chancellor has said governments that have expressed concern have fully changed “discussion about migration, so that the EU's non-border states, such as Austria, are more involved in discussions on this topic.
Only when we realize that the problem has to be solved together, then we have the opportunity to write down progress”, he said. /Radio Europe Free
