Sorenseni even formally elected as Lajcak's successor for dialogue

European Union member states have agreed to today's meeting of foreign ministers for the appointment of Danish diplomat Peter Sorensen as special envoy for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, in which he will replace Miroslav Lajcak, in which he completes his nearly five-year mandate on 31 January. In the EU Council statement, in which Sorensen's appointment is reportedly due to advance implementation of the agreement.
The new special representative's “will be tasked to facilitate dialogue, which will contribute to the comprehensive normalisation of the reports between Serbia and Kosovo, and in particular to implementation of the Agreement on the road to normalisation and its adopted annex in February and March 2023. Mr. Sorensen will start his work on February 1st 2025, with an initial mandate of 13 months”, It says in this communique.
It further mentions Peter Sorensen's far - reaching career as long - experienced Danish diplomat from the region.
He has exercised several tasks, from the UNMIK administration's period in Kosovo to the pillar that the EU has led him to the role of the EU special representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina and chief of the EU office in Sarajevo. The EU chief in Skopje has also been the special envoy of the EU's top representative for Serbia.
EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Kaya Kallas had decided a week earlier for Sorensen to be the special representative for dialogue. This was then supported by member states on the Council at the level of ambassadors, while this has been formally adopted today by EU foreign ministers.
Sorensen will be the EU special representative for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. Miroslav Lajcak, predecessor of Sorensen, has had in his title except for dialogue and “other regional issues”. /Time
