Feride Rushiti and the Kosovo Centre for the rehabilitation of Torture Survivors (QKRMT) have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for 2025.
The nomination was made by Swedish Parliament deputy Magnus Jacobsson, who, in a letter sent to the Norwegian Nobel Institute Committee, stressed that this decision was made to recognise “the extraordinary” of Rushit and QKRMT “in advance of human rights, the dignity of survivors, and the healing of the wounds of war communities”.
Feride Rushiti shared for Euronews.al, her thoughts on this important achievement, calling it a good opportunity for war crimes in Kosovo to be recognised globally. She said she had no preliminary information on the nomination, stressing that she had originally had a casual meeting with MP Jacobsson in the summer of 2022, in the context of meetings with internationals, where they share experiences and discuss the challenges they face.
“During a conversation in Zoom with the organisation's staff, I learned about the nomination and then was briefed and Kosovo's ambassador to Sweden, also news spread to the media and social network”, Rushiti said.
She said this is a higher assessment that can become an individual and the cause it represents, adding that this is a moment of pride not only for him but also for Kosovo society.
“is an opportunity to highlight this cause at an international level and ensure that war crimes are recognised globally” she added.
This nomination is an important recognition of Feride Rushiti and KRCT's hard work in support of victims of torture and war victims in Kosovo.
