In a response to the media, the Union has expressed disappointment that status RTK's still out of order.
RTK's “Sindicate expresses its deep disappointment with all of Kosovo's Assembly legislatures, which so far have failed to resolve RTK's status. Adoption of a new law that would regulate property issues and independent public broadcaster financing is more than necessary for its functioning”, said in response.
The union has said they are indignant since campaign time promised a raise when, according to them, public broadcaster workers have not had a raise since 2006.
“We are indignant that even in times of election campaigns we hear promises of salary growth, while RTK operates with a budget of 2.2m euros lower. Moreover, the increase in salaries for RTK employees has not occurred since 2006, witnessing a major neglect to their rights. RTK workers, through their jobs and taxes, contribute to the development of our state”, the response follows.
For these reasons, the Union has said it would be obliged to address the Constitutional if the Assembly does not take action.
The lack of support from the founder is a major damage to the future of the public broadcaster. The union publicly informs the Kosovo Parliament and political parties that if the RTK budget issue is not addressed urgently, we will be obliged to address this problem at the Constitutional Court. We prefer all political parties in the Kosovo Assembly to turn their attention to the public broadcaster, which is in a heavy financial and infrastructure situation. RTK's importance for democracy and our state is untenable and requires immediate support”, the response concludes.
