News agency Reuters has dedicated a special article to energy prices in Europe and the Balkans, including Kosovo.
Reuters writes that Kosovo, which generates more than 90% of its energy from coal, is trying to catch up with the rest of Europe in installing more renewable resources.
But based on the World Bank report, Kosovo's media estimate that this transition -- the complete elimination of coal use -- costs a total of 4.5 billion euros.
“A frightening amount for small economy”, Reuters writes.
“in December, it launched an auction to install 100 Get me some wind capacity. But the World Bank estimates it needs 100 times more than 10 gigaves of its new capacity to meet its target of eliminating coal use by 2050. This transition is estimated to cost Kosovo 4.5 billion euros, a frightening sum for the small economy”.
Reuters also mentions import of electricity in Southeast Europe and the Balkans.
Henning Gloystein, the head of energy, climate and resources in Eurasia Group, estimates that Southeast Europe and the Balkans lack interconnections (ellectical).
: Whenever there is a lack of energy and the production of renewable resources is low, they struggle to import necessary volumes,” he said.
