The European Union Council next Monday will approve the bloc's High Representative's decision, Kaya Kallas, for the new emissary of Kosovo-Serbia dialogue. His name is not yet officially known, however, in the media it was reported to be diplomat from Denmark Peter Sorensen.
The European Council in an answer to the Express Journal has confirmed that at Monday's upcoming meeting the EU Foreign Affairs Council is expected to confirm Kaya Kallas' choice of intermediation of Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, since current Special Representative Miroslav Lajcak completes the mandate at the end of this month.
This decision is expected to be approved by the Foreign Affairs Council next Monday. We'll issue a press at that time”, he said. You're in response.
Free Europe Radio Today reported that the diplomat from Denmark, Peter Sorensen, has been confirmed by European Union ambassadors for the post of the bloc's special representative for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.
Earlier in an answer to the Express, the European Council had confirmed the question of the new province's dialogue is under consideration by member states, but had not found out whose name is being considered.
The Foreign Affairs Council consists of the foreign ministers of all EU member states. His meetings are conducted by the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security High Representative.
Finally, diplomats from Finland were also mentioned as potential replacements for Lajcak. Former Finland's Foreign Minister, Pekka Haavisto, was among the rumours, but Finland in an earlier response to Express had denied an official nomination for it.
Meanwhile, Danish diplomat Sorensen is currently senior adviser to the EU Foreign Action Service (EEAS) for digital diplomacy.
During his diplomatic career in the EU, Sorensen has exercised several tasks in the Western Balkans. He has served as the EU's special representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina and chief of the EU office in Sarajevo. So has the chief of the European bloc's delegation in Skopje.
Earlier, Sorensen has been working as adviser to both Kosovo and the UN mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), while also being the special representative of the EU high representative in Serbia.
In the Balkans, he has also worked on the Organisation for Security and Co-operation mission in Europe (OSBE) in Croatia.
His experience from the region is said to have been one of the arguments, wrote REL, why Kaya Kallas has decided to be Lajcak's successor.
