The defence minister says this is not about “responsory” that the Kosovo Security Force will not go north of the country, as KFOR Commander Enrico Bardoni said a few days ago that it was confirmed by that “authorisation” for this in written form.
Ejup Macedonia told Gazeta Express that the purpose of a letter he has sent to KFOR commander has been to clarify that the commitment of an KSF unit to the country's four northern municipalities was not aimed at straining the situation there.
The purpose of the letter has been to clarify the KFOR commander that a commitment of a KSF unit to one of the four municipalities in northern Kosovo that occurred a few days before the letter was delivered has not been aimed at straining the” situation, he said.
Macedonia said it has clarified to KFOR commander “the circumstances of the KSF unit's commitment”, but also that it has re-enforced the continuation of the commitment made on April 19th 2013 that the KSF does not engage in operations in the north without prior co-ordination with the NATO peacekeeping mission.
“On paper I have clarified the circumstances of the KSF unit's engagement and as I have always said publicly in the media, I have reiterated that Kosovo institutions will continue to respect the pledge made on April 19th 2013 for KSF's commitment to operations in the north following preliminary co-ordination with KFOR Commander. The 2013 pledge letter was sent by former Prime Minister Thaci to NATO Secretary General”, Macedonia said.
“sharer issues of the pledge”, the defence minister says that “is required at that level”, while at his level and KFOR commander's command, he said it is to assure each other that “we will take the necessary actions to ensure that our military engagement in the north becomes co-ordinated”.
So, it's not about re-compensation because the 2013 pledge has been made at the level of NATO Prime Minister and Secretary General. We are continuing to respect the former prime minister's 2013 pledge, despite assessing that pledge has been wrong and harmful to our army”, Macedonia said.
KFOR Commander Italian Enrico Bardonini had spoken in an interview for RTK 2 for a written-shaped pledge he had made by Defence Minister Ejup Macedonia on the case.
This vow has been confirmed, recently in writing by Minister Ejup Macedonia”, Bardoni declared on December 12th 2024.
