These are some of the plans presented by French President Emmanuel Macron to renew the Louvre Museum in Paris. Standing next to Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece, Mona Liza, Macron presented his multi-year plan for the Parisian monument called the New “Renaissance.
Macron's announcement comes after Louvre president warned last week that the museum has water flow, temperature changes and poor infrastructure that jeopardise its priceless art works.
The renovation will cost about 700m to 800m euros over the ten years, out of which only a tiny “section” will be financed by taxpayers, the president's circle stated. One of the main proposals included a higher entry fee for visitors from outside the EU starting January 2026.
The Metropolitan Art Museum currently calls visitors abroad $30 to see the collection. This increased ticket price will go for estimated repairs of between 300m and 400m euros over the years.
The French leader also said that Mona Lisa will be moved to a dedicated room and will undergo a special ticket.
According to foreign media, the state will continue to assist the museum, providing 10m euros in financing this year for preliminary construction studies conducted by architects. /euronews
