KFOR says regular patrols and commitments with representatives of local communities in Kosovo are for preventing tensions and renewed violence in Serbia. They say after the recent events in Banjska and Zvecan, NATO decided to increase the number of KFOR troops through the delocation of reserve forces.
According to KFOR, 4300 troops are patrolling from 29 contributing nations.
Our main objective is to prevent tensions or renewed violence. This is what we are doing every day, through regular patrols and commitments with representatives of local communities throughout Kosovo. Because of the developing security situation, in 2023, after the events of Banjska and Zvecan, NATO decided to increase the number of KFOR troops through the delocation of reserve forces. Today, KFOR's force of about 4300 troops from 29 contributing countries (including NATO allies and partners)” is said in KFOR's response to the 1st.
On the other hand, KFOR has indicated that after the attack on the Iber-Lepenc channel, the situation in northern Kosovo is calm.
After the November 29th attack on the Iber-Lepenc Canal, the security situation in northern Kosovo is calm, but remains fragile, due to several factors, including unresolved issues in the process of normalising relations between Belgrade and Pristina, and disinformation and rampant dezination”, KFOR said.
Meanwhile, as for patrols, KFOR has indicated that they will continue to strengthen transparency and prevent any risks.
“As we have said, the situation in Kosovo is calm, but fragile. KFOR will continue to conduct regular patrols along the Administrative Border Line and is vigilant. Continued co-ordination by Kosovo Police and the Armed Forces of Serbia is essential to strengthening mutual transparency and awareness of the situation and preventing any risk of unwarranted escalation.
While KFOR continues to provide a safe and secure environment for all people living in Kosovo, on the basis of its UN long mandate, law enforcement throughout Kosovo falls under the responsibility of the Kosovo Police”, KFOR is said to be the answer.
