None of the 24 Serbian judges who resigned in November 2022 have called for a return to jobs. As the process for these judges continues to be put on hold, Kosovo Judiciary Council leader Albert Zogaj says this issue will only be addressed under the KDR.
He in an interview for Kosovo, Press said that despite half-staffing the Constitutional Court in Mitrovica has increased its efficiency.
Zogaj points out how the KDR has consistently opened competitions for meeting the vacant positions at the Constitutional Court in Mitrovica, but the goal has never been to replace the 24 positions of the retired Serbian judges. As for the insistence of the National Auditor Office on auditing in basic courts of efficiency in civil treatment, Zogaj says this audit will not occur as it constitutes flagrant intervention in the work of the judiciary.
The current government was targeted in the justice system, but that during this governing mandate this process has remained unliving. For the head of the Kosovo Judiciary Council, this process is now, but in the future it is impossible.
The head of the Kosovo Judiciary Council says the joint declaration of commitment to legal reform in the justice system currently stands on the Venice Commission. As for penal policies, the KDR leader believes that this year will provide proposals for amendments to the level of sanctions involved in the Criminal Code.
During the year we left the executive power has addressed criticism of the judicial system and the work of judges, considered to be intervention in justice. Kosovo Judiciary Council head Albert Zogaj considers it necessary to change this approach in relation to decision-making and justice.
The Kosovo Judiciary Council has voiced disappointment over budgetary support. Disatisfactions are expected to continue this year.
EULEX's report on monitoring the 2024 justice system has shown that addressing high profile cases has not marked progress, and some risk prescribing. Based on this report, challenge justice institutions remain the productivity of sessions, while detention continues to be used excessively.
We recall that in November 2022, the Serbian List decided to leave Kosovo's central institutions, as well as municipalities in the north. The resignations gave Serbian members of the Kosovo Police, judiciary and prosecution in these municipalities. /KP
