Speaking of the situation in the Middle East at the World Economic Forum in Davos, he said he hopes Iran will engage constructively with other countries in the region.
At the Gaza Strip, Guterres said he hoped the conflict parties would realise they would benefit from a permanent ceasefire that could pave the way for negotiations on a two-state solution.
Guterres also called on the international community to ease sanctions on Syria, Reuters reported.
Earlier, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Gross, said today that Iran currently has about 200kg of uranium enriched up to 60 percent purity.
Grossi told reporters at the Davos economic forum that it is close to 90 per cent of the purity needed to produce nuclear weapons, Reuters reported.
According to IAEA standards, this amount of uranium would suffice to produce five nuclear bombs. /euronews
