The president-elect did not rule out using military force or economic action to take control of Panama and Greenland Canal, saying that American control of the two is vital to national security in the United States.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said he did not believe the United States would invade the vast Arctic island, which is part of Denmark for more than 600 years.
There is clearly no doubt that the European Union would allow other nations of the world to attack its sovereign borders, whoever they are”, he told France Inter radio. “We are a strong continent”, he added.
Mr. Trump's comments further outlined an expansionist agenda, two weeks before taking over on January 20th in Washington.
If you ask me if I think the United States will invade Greenland, my answer is no. But have we entered a period of time when the survival of the fittest is discussed? Then my answer is still at”, Minister Barrot said.
He said the EU should not allow itself to fear or worry too much, but must wake up and strengthen.
