The Kosovo Assembly, during the eighth legislature, has adopted 282 laws, but has also faced many challenges that have hampered its efficiency. According to a report released by the Kosovo Democratic Institute, this period has been accompanied by missed opportunities and a lack of accountability on the part of MPs.
Moreover, on the eve of elections, where only a month remains until they are held, meetings to hold sessions are almost impossible.
Eugen Cakoli from KDI, commenting on this situation, explains that the current law envisions the work of the Parliament should be closed a day before the official start of the election campaign.
“Since the assembly has completed its work session in late December and that the new session should begin by mid-January, then the convent can progressively no longer meet and as such has completed its mandate and the last session of December has been the final session of this legislature, unless any extraordinary session of agreement is called to adopt some of the agreements or laws pending in the” assembly, Cakoli said.
But what will happen to the bills and international agreements that have not been voted out?
“All of the bills remaining in the Assembly will now be returned to zero point, while international agreements would have to be reseded by the future government whenever it is created”, he added.
Viewing the not so efficient work of this legislature, he has said the future legislature should be more responsible for the citizens he has chosen.
“It is necessary for the Parliament to have a more distributed work calendar, there must be sanctioned measures”, Cakolli said.
However, it remains to be seen what the new Parliament legislature will be after the February 9th elections. / RTK
