Brussels officials have specified that the United States of America does not contribute financially to the expenses of the operation of Specialised Chambers in The Hague.
“Passing courses of Kosovo Specialised Chambers and the Specialised Prosecutor's Office are covered by the European Union, according to the Joint Foreign and Security Policy budget. US is not contributing to the operating costs of this institution”, a written response to RTK from the European Commission headquarters.
US President Donald Trump had ordered the freeze of federal funds, including the ban on delivering loans and financial aid, which was suspended two days later.
The decision had raised questions about the functioning of specialised rooms, where former Kosovo state-run elites are being tried.
But the Specialised Chambers, as well as the Specialised Prosecutor, operate in the European Union budget, as well as some other donor states, which finance certain programmes.
Currently, the annual budget accounts for nearly 100m euros.
The EU reiterates the importance and support of Kosovo's Specialised Chambers and the Specialised Prosecutor's Office.
