AV ONET says developments of this kind raise serious doubts about the legality and independence of the actions and members of this institution, questioning respect for constitutionality and positive legislation in the country.
Through a statement, this network says that changes of regulation and proceedings of the election of the new chairman without transparency and without a fair process constitute a disturbing practice, which can directly affect the free functioning of the media and freedom of expression in the country.
This action, which has been conveyed with numerous reactions from the media, civil society and legal experts, is seen as a step that jeopardises the autonomy of one of the key institutions for ensuring media pluralism. In a functional democracy, independent institutions must remain untouched by political influence and power interference”, it is said further in that statement.
AV ONET is asking KPM to review the revote of this process and ensure that any decision in this institution is made in full accordance with democratic law and principles.
“We ask the KPM to examine the revote of this process and ensure that any decision in the KPM is made in full accordance with democratic law and principles. law enforcement selectively and changing rules in favour of specific interests undermines trust in the country's constitutional system”, the statement concludes.
