Emails containing a bomb threat were sent to many educational institutions in Hungary on Thursday morning, causing them to be provisionally closed to take precautions, the National Police Staff (ORFK) said.
The threats have affected a total of 121 schools nationwide, prompting an investigation by authorities. So far, no bomb has been found in controlled schools, local media reports.
In the letter described by the police, an unidentified person threatened to attack “any collection site, each reference point” in what he said was a violent extremist plot organised by a “califat” without a name, reports Euronews, broadcast Klaankosova.tv.
Gergely Gulyás, minister of the Prime Minister's Office, confirmed the authenticity of the email. Paper content could not be verified independently by Euronews.
