In the last 24 hours alone, seven girls and women of Kosovo headed police stations to report domestic violence, which, according to police, came from men as a result of disagreements. As the police revealed, three people have been arrested and one is on the run. As for others after the prosecutor's decision interview, cases have been processed in regular procedure.
In the last 24 hours at Kosovo police stations, seven cases of domestic violence have been reported, where all victims are women. The cases occurred in Pristina, two in Fushe Kosovo, one in Kline, one in Rahovec and one in Gjakova.
To reduce the number of these cases, according to sociologist Flaka Ymeri, policy being well-versed by domestic institutions is needed. Ymer also highlights the particular treatment that victims must undergo, not leaving them in the same space with the bully.
“... this subject is already known for our society. Every growing case is disturbing for the country and society. Well - known policies make it easier for us to deal with the traumas of those who have experienced physical or psychic violence. Institutions should offer them asylum, independence and employment so the victims do not return to violators. The consequences will be huge if the bully and the victim share the same space. When we have policies that protect us from rape, everything will be easier. Care should be taken with dealing with the victims of violence...”, Ymer said.
According to the Kosovo Police, more than 2300 cases of domestic violence were reported during 2024, a figure marking an increase of 6% by 2023. / RTV21
