The Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kosovo has joined calls on election institutions from around the world and election monitoring organisations to condemn the decisions and actions of the Russian Federation authorities and its occupational administrations in connection with the organisation of the so-called elections for president of the Russian Federation on March 15th 2024, in Ukraine's temporarily occupied territory in the Autonomous Crime Republic, the town of Sevatopol, Donetsk, Luhansk, Zapor and Kherson regions.
The CEC, at one of the past meetings, has agreed to follow the CEC of the Republic of Ukraine with a support statement supporting their stance on February 23rd 2024 on the lawlessness of preparing and maintaining <x0-election” of Russian Federation 2024 in Ukraine's temporarily occupied territories.
In letter sent to CEC Chairman of the Republic of Ukraine, Mr. Oleh Didenko, stressed that “The CEC of the Republic of Kosovo estimates that the decisions and actions of the Russian Federation authorities as well as its invading administrations regarding the organisation of preparation and holding of so-called elections in these temporarily occupied territories violate Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. They also show Russia's disregard for international law standards, internationally recognised democratic principles and standards, and fundamental human rights”.
The CEC also estimates that the decisions and actions of the Russian Federation authorities as well as its invading administrations regarding the organisation of preparation and holding of so - called elections in these temporarily occupied territories violate the sovereignty, territorial integrity of Ukraine, and show Russia's disregard for international rights norms, internationally recognised democratic principles and standards and fundamental human rights.
Evacuating support, the CEC of the Republic of Kosovo hopes that in a near future between the two institutions, there will be concrete co-operation in the field of elections.
The CEC of the Republic of Kosovo is a full-fledged member of the Association of World Election Officials (A-ËEB) as well as the CEC of the Republic of Ukraine. /EO
