Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Saturday that the government will shut down the TikTok social network for a year, blaming it for inciting violence and kindness, especially among children.
Albanian authorities held 1,300 meetings with teachers and parents after the murder of a teenager in mid-November by another teenager after a row started in TikTok, reports “Euronews Albania”.
Prime Minister Edi Rama, speaking at a meeting of teachers and parents, said TikTok “would be completely closed to all. ... there will be no TickTok in the Republic of Albania”. Rama said the closure will begin sometime next year and will last a year.
TikTok in an email response Saturday to a comment request requested an urgent “cretation by the Albanian government” in the case of the teen stabbed.
The company said that “had found no evidence that the author or victim had TikTok accounts and numerous reports have actually confirmed the videos that led to this incident were being posted on another platform, not on TikTok”, writes Associated Press.
