The chairman of the trial panel at the Special Court has rejected the former AKI chief's request, the Smaj Union, to be released on bail.
The head of the Special Court said the indictment filed for criminal acts against justice administration constitutes “added to the escape”, if left free,
Family circumstances do not eliminate the risk of escaping. I decide that Mr. Smaj will remain in custody”, she said, to close today's first appearance session of the former AKI chief at the Special Court.
He is accused of attempted obstructing official persons in carrying out official duties and disobeying the tribunal.
Otherwise, Bashkim Smaj, Fadil Fazliu and Isni Kilaj were arrested on December 5th in Kosovo and transferred to the detention facility in DrsK on Friday, December 6th, on the basis of the confirmed indictment and reported arrest issued by The Hague.
