Russia arrests the nuclear weapons chief's assassin: Ukraine offered him $100,000

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced this Wednesday the arrest of a 29-year-old from Uzbekistan, as suspected of killing top Russian General Igor Kirillov and his assistant in Moscow. General Kirillov, head of Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Protection Forces, was killed Tuesday morning when an explosive device [...]
According to the FSB, suspect Akhmad Kurbanov had acted in collaboration with Ukrainian intelligence and admitted during questioning that a $100,000 reward and permission had been offered to travel to the European Union in exchange for the assassination. The Russian security service said the detainee had received instructions to mount explosive equipment and monitor Kirillo's residence with a hidden camera, broadcasting directly to collaborators in the Ukrainian town of Dnepro.
On the other hand, a source from the Ukrainian Security Service told the BBC that the killing of Kirillo was an justified operation, labeling it a legitimate “legitimate objective” due to his involvement in war crimes. The SBU has accused Russia of using chemical weapons over 4,800 times under Kirillov's direction, charges Moscow denies.
Russian authorities have declared they will seek the punishment of those responsible and have warned of raising the issue to the UN Security Council on Friday.
Kirillov, 54, was one of the highest military figures killed within Russian territory since the start of the war in Ukraine. He was previously sanctioned by the United Kingdom for his alleged role in the use of chemical weapons, while Russia claims to have destroyed its chemical arsenal since 2017. /euronews. al
