Pope Francis called for “to drop weapons” worldwide during his Christmas address. The Holy Father called for peace in the Middle East, Ukraine and Sudan, and condemned the superfluous “humanitarian” in the Gaza Strip.
He used the traditional message to 1.4 billion Catholics worldwide, demanding talks of fair peace in Ukraine as this country faced massive missile attacks and fear on Christmas.
The pope also called for ceasefire in Gaza and the release of Israeli hostages being held by Hamas, the Palestinian group declared terrorist organisation by the United States and the European Union.
I think of the Christian communities in Israel and Palestine, separately in Gaza, where the humanitarian situation is extremely serious”, he told thousands of believers who gathered before St. Peter's Basilica in Rome to address the Pope.
I wish there was a truce, I wish the hostages were released and given help to people who were exhausted by hunger and war”.
He also called for peace in Sudan, where a brutal civil war is under way, started 20 months ago and caused millions to face hunger.
On Christmas Day, Ukraine faced massive Russian attacks. Ukraine, which marks Christmas on December 25th in the country on January 7th, when most Orthodox believers mark the holiday.
