Sources near Meta, who owns Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp, said the company can spend over $10 billion on a nearly 40,000-km project, Telegraphed.
Meta would reportedly possess a hundred percent of the cable's capacity. It's unclear what role, if it has, the AI plays in project motivations.
The project is in early stages, but capacity and target route are not public. Planning is said to be run by Meta's South African office.
