Ekaterina Trendafilova has been renamed head of Kosovo's Specialised Chambers even for a new four-year term, the court announced on Friday.
The current mandate of Trandafilova would end on 15 December. This is the second time it has continued its mandate since it was appointed to the head of Kosovo's Specialised Chambers in 2016, a year after their establishment.
Specialised Chambers and the Specialised Prosecutor's Office, known as the Special Court, investigate the alleged crimes of members of the Kosovo Liberation Army committed against ethnic minorities and political rivals from January 1998 to December 2000.
Trendafilova stressed that the “evaluates continued trust” against it and that it is “committed that Kosovo Specialised Chambers will continue to conduct processes quickly, fairly and effectively, as required by the legal framework of court”.
Last week, the Special Court in The Hague confirmed a new indictment against former Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, as well as against former Justice Minister Hajredin Kuci, former head of the Kosovo Agency for Intelligence, the Smaj Union, Malisheva's former chairman, Isni Kilaj, and Fadil Fazlius.
They are accused of influence over witnesses in another case, where former President Thaci and other former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders Kadri Veselini, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi are being tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity, which they have denied.
Kosovo's specialised chambers have so far declared two counts of obstruction in the administration of justice.
Two former KLA Veterans Organisation challenges Hysni Gucati and Nasim Haradinaj, and have been convicted of obstructing justice so far.
Meanwhile, the Special has pronounced two war crimes judgments.
Former superior of KLA, Salih Mustafa, has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for war crimes, while former member of KLA, Peter Shala, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for arbitrary detention, torture and murder.
The Special Court was founded in 2015 by the Assembly of Kosovo and is part of Kosovo's judicial system, but operates with international personnel and has headquarters at The Hague. /rel
