Former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, his wife, who is British, and their three grown children will start a new life in Russia after Vladimir Putin gave them political asylum.

Asma Al-Assad, born in London, was taught a life of luxury and spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on furniture and clothing during her husband's reign.

The U.S. State Department estimates that the family has two billion dollars and their wealth is hidden in numerous accounts, extinguishing companies, fiscal paradise and real estate.

The family also has large properties in Moscow, so they will surely continue to live with luxury in exile, reports Daily Mail.

The Syrian dictator's family reportedly bought at least 20 apartments in Moscow worth more than 30m euros in recent years. Apartments are located in the Moscow City of Capitals complex, broadcast online Reporter.net.

The Kremlin confirmed on Monday that the family was given asylum at Putin's direct order. Lady Assad, who is struggling with an aggressive form of leukemia, is believed to have arrived in Moscow with her daughter and two sons days before her husband eventually left Syria.

Secret tunnels under the residence of the Assad family were discovered after the rebels invaded the capital city of Damascus on Sunday.

The family, including Hafez and Carim boys, 24 and 21, and the daughter Zein, 22, are now expected to live in Russia, though it is not yet known whether they will live in a private home or be forced to stay in a safe haven.

In any case, they will likely expect a certain level of luxury in view of previous living conditions.

In 2012, Wikipedia discovered private messages from Mrs. Assad, which showed that she had spent $350,000 on palace arrest and $7,000 on crystal - dressed shoes.

Assad's relatives, the Makhlouf family, led by his uncle Mohammed Makhlouf, are considered the second richest and most important family in Syria and also have considerable wealth in Russia.

To save tens of millions of dollars as civil war erupted in Syria, the family also bought at least 18 luxury apartments in Moscow's luxury complex City of Capitals.

The twin towers stream, which was the highest building in Europe until the opening of London's Shard in 2012, is home to some of Russia's richest businessmen, government ministries, five-star hotels and multinational companies.

The rich building can now become a home for the Assads, who are beginning a new life in exile.

Photos of apartments at the complex show luxury equipment and high-level furniture, as well as a panoramic view of Moscow.

The Assad family well knows Moscow, and Al-Assad's eldest son, Hafez, received a doctorate in physics and mathematics at Moscow State University.
