The Kosovo Agency for Intelligence's lawyer, the Smaj Union, called for the release of his client, who first appeared at the Special Court after being arrested Thursday over an indictment of criminal acts against justice administration.
He mentioned former Justice Minister Hajredin Kuci, who was not detained but was issued a call to appear before the tribunal.
I challenge the legality of my client's arrest and detention. First of all, I have something to say: We understand, but we don't know exactly what the SPS can help us in the same case is a person who is not in custody and is invited to present himself with his own free will before this court. My question is why couldn't the same happen to my client?
He said Smaj “was the object of a search on September 30th, more than before a year's 11x1>, where, as he said, a host of cases were seized, but he had been arrested.
The lawyer said Smaj sé has changed the address since then.
He said the former AKI chief is the father of four children, three of whom, as he said, are currently left unattended.
“is the father of four: three of the children still live in his house and are young children, 17, 11 and 8 years old, and my wife works full-time and therefore my client is the one who cares for younger children. This is important because they don't have anyone to care for children right now. He's been arrested in a sudden, without knowing, and this is unwarranted. Why isn't my client even invited to volunteer on this case?
The children are left without the father who cares for them. While the wife must work in order to cover her family's financial expenses. They don't have any relatives to help. Grandparents no longer live, only the client's father lives, as the client told me, but he's 80 years old and because of his old age and the distance he lives in is almost an hour away from his father can't take care of children”, he added.
To former President Hashim Thaci, former Justice Minister Hajredin Kuci, former head of the Kosovo Intelligence Agency, Bashkim Smaj, former head of Malisheva, Isni Kilaj, and Fadil Fazliut on November 29th has established a new indictment, which became public on December 6th.
