After an explosion in the village of Varag in Zubin Potok on Friday night damaged Iber-Lepenc's water channel, from which it was supplied by Ujman Lake a part of the country and Kosovo Energy Corporation, Prime Minister Albin Kurti appeared at midnight at an extraordinary news conference for the media.
He accused Serbia of this “criminal and terrorist attacks”, which he said has targeted damage to the country's “most important infrastructure”.
The attack, which was said to have been able to jeopardise the supply of a large portion of the country with water and electricity, Kurti said that “came from gangs designed and orchestrated by Serbia, which has interest and ability to cause such attacks and injuries”.
A few days later, the prime minister travelled to Brussels to meet with the new leaders of the European Union.
Kurti did not mention Serbia at the European helm Wednesday, after meeting with new EU diplomatic chief Kaya Kallas.
Of course we discussed the latest attack on Kosovo, the explosion of the Iber-Lepenc Canal in Kosovo's Zubin Potok. In this case, the threat was that more than half of our country's population - under attack - is to be left without water, even without electricity”, he said before reporters, without specifically accusing the northern neighbour of doing so.
It also spoke of the basic agreement with Serbia, which it considered the “achieved significant”. Belgrade, he accused him of breaking it.
The charge that Serbia stands behind the attack on the water channel did not mention on Facebook or on X, where it wrote after meeting with Kallas.
Kurti indicated that the Estonian diplomat had also spoken about the attack, while demanding that Milan Radoici -- the man who claimed responsibility for the September 24th 2023 attack on Zvecan Banjska -- be handed over to Kosovo authorities.
“To have regional co-operation and good neighbourly relations, security threats must end, and the main terrorist following the attack on Banjska, along with his paramilitary group, must surrender Kosovo for prosecution”, he wrote in X.
On Facebook, he remembered that they had discussed the attack, but he wrote that he is eager to work with Callas.
“As far as security is concerned, he said that the Republic of Kosovo has successfully managed the most serious challenges and threats since its declaration of independence, referring to Serbia's pre-militar attack and aggression in Banjska in September 2023, where a Kosovo Police Sergeant was killed, and the November 29th kinetic attack on the water channel “Iobre Lepenc<2> in Zubin Potok, with the risk of half the population being left without electricity and electricity. While investigations into the latest attack are under way, the prime minister underlined that among the seizures made in connection with the case, along with weapons and ammunition, 74 military emblems have been found, out of which 20 are of various Russian military units, besides those Serbian”, Kurt's office, meanwhile, through a issued communique.
Kurti also met in Brussels with new European Council President Antonio Costa. Father, ZKM said Prime Minister “briefed on Friday's November 29th kinetic terrorist attack on the Iber-Lepenci channel, and the goal of this attack to damage the production of electricity and water supply, out of which more than half the population would remain without electricity and water”.
In X, Kurti wrote that at this meeting he raised “concerns about threats and continuing threats to our security, including the recent terrorist attack on our critical infrastructure”, and that he made “calls for responsibility”.
Regional co-operation must be based on good neighbourly relations, which require mutual recognition and respect, accountability and a common commitment to peace”, he wrote.
Kurt on Facebook did not mention that, but he wrote that he offered Costa “close and honest cooperation”.
Kallas and Costa were officials of an organised dinner for leaders of the Western Balkans, where besides Kurti, Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq was also in charge.
Vuciq said on Saturday that Serbia has nothing to do with what happened the previous day in northern Kosovo.
He said they were launching an investigation and that “would be” for this case to be cleared.
“We have certain doubts, the investigation will show who ordered it. We think that we have some information about who author” is expressed at a news conference.
The EU's top diplomat, after meetings with Kurti and Vuciqi, said the only <x0nd Street for EU membership is normalising their relations, under the Ohrid” agreement.
“Welcomed readiness to co-operate fully after the latest terrorist attack. The authors must face justice”, she wrote on X.
Kurti said on Saturday that in addition to several arrests that took place after this attack, the country's institutions have “evidence and material evidence” and that all these criminals and terrorists will face the justice and power of Kosovo's righteous law”, while visiting the damaged channel Saturday.
