KDI says appointment of environmental Minister Lieburn Aliu's family and Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi as members of the Coon Public Company Board of Directors STT presents a clear example of nepotism and interest conflict and the function of using institutions for private interests.
Moreover, KDI considers that the review and adoption of the Bill for the State Bureau for Verification and Confiscating of Inexcusable Riches in both readings within a short period of time presents another blow to parliamentary democratic processes.
This bill, promoted as one of the most important in fighting corruption, would not have to be adopted without public consultations, without parliamentary debate and without public involvement. This haste in his adoption suggests that the bill is being used for electoral purposes, rather than serving as a mechanism against illegal enrichment of public officials”.
KDI says recent developments are weakening the rule of law and favouring the ruling party's narrow political interests, misusing the Kosovo Assembly for electoral motives.
