The Albanian government has decided to block the TikTok platform in Albania, Education Minister Ogerta Manastirliu has said during the presentation of the New Action Plan, an initiative by the Ministry of Education to boost security in schools.
Manastirliu pointed out that this step is part of a package of measures that are under way by the National Cyber Security Authority and the National Information Society Agency. She stressed that TikTok's ban is a measure linked to efforts to boost physical and digital security in schools and protect children from negative social networks.
“For increasing physical and digital security in schools and the impact that social networks bring, as well as the engagement of children, we have set the TikTok platform deadlock, based on a package of measures the relevant authorities are working on,” said Manastirliu.
We are aware that in students, the need for multidisciplinary support is growing, especially in terms of psycho-emotional support and addressing age concerns. For this reason, we have planned to add 350 psychosocial workers, reaching 1,200 within the next two years. Along with our civil society partners and academic institutions, we will set up a National Network for Online Security, which will help digital protection of students”, the minister added./ euronews
