Germany thus moves towards early elections so that it can be held on February 23rd.
Out of 717 ballots counted, 207 gave Scholz their trust, 394 did not and 116 abstained.
Now the Chancellor will ask President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to disperse parliament and allow general elections.
Scholz called Monday's vote and expected to lose it, accounting that causing early elections was his best chance to revive his party's political assets, reports the BBC.
Ahead of Monday's vote, Scholz has said he will now be in the hands of “voters defining our country's political course”.
