For this race, the CEC has certified political subjects that have applied for participation in the election.
While the main parties are ranked by 110 candidates and others with fewer, the race as a single one, the independent candidate has entered only one person who was certified by the CEC last week.
As with political subjects, the election threshold is the same for independent candidates. They must secure at least 5 per cent of the general vote to become part of the Assembly.
Like this time, in three sets of elections, those in 2014, 2019 and 2024 were only by an independent candidate.
The number of independent candidates for MP in the Kosovo Assembly has been different during the election processes in Kosovo. In general, from the first elections for the Kosovo Assembly held in 2002 and until now after the Certificate of the Kosovo Election Candidates for the Parliament to be held on February 9th 2025, the number of independent candidates to compete in the elections is 13”, KEC spokesman RTKlive Valmir Elezi has said.
He has indicated that the largest number of independent candidates ever was in the 2004 elections 20 years ago.
The largest number of independent candidates, in all, 5 have been certified in the Kosovo Assembly Elections, which were held in 2004. In the 2002 elections that number was 3, in those in 2007 was 2, meanwhile, in the 2014 elections, 2019 and 2024 was from 1 certified candidate”, Elesi indicated further.
But, there have been election processes that have not applied an independent candidate, and this has occurred on three sides of the election -- those in 2010, 2017 and 2021.
