Cassanoff: The Iber-Lepenc attack was terrible, we are helping Kosovo conduct the investigation

US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Western Balkans Alexander Kasanoff has said the United States is helping Kosovo conduct the investigation over the November 29th attack on Iber-Lepenci water channel in the village of Zubin Potok. Kasanoff has said it is critical that the investigation pursues facts on the ground and reviews all information, while stressing the importance of co-operation with international partners to have a credible investigation into the attack.
It was a terrible attack. We've condemned him with the strongest words possible, and I'm going to reinstate him here to condemn any such attack. We are helping Kosovo and the Kosovo government conduct the investigation. We have helped by making resources available for this purpose. And we think that it is critical that any investigation into the field should follow the facts, examine all information there and work with international partners in this context to ensure that a reliable investigation will be established. What I can say is that such acts are not only terrible but are clearly designed to create instability and reject them in the strongest way”, Cassanoff declared in an interview for the Voice of America.
Cassanoff has also been asked about the new American administration and access to dialogue. He has refused to comment on the policies of the Trump administration, but has said the current administration will remain focused on Kosovo assistance and support.
He said they will continue to repeat the demand in both Kosovo and Serbia for efforts to progress in the dialogue.
“I repeat, ...it's not appropriate to talk about a new administration and what its policies will be. This administration, as it nears its end, will remain focused on assistance to Kosovo, support for Kosovo, not only for reforms and efforts they are making on the path of integration with Euro-Atlantic structures, but also as they work on issues that are essentially EU-mediated dialogue. We are supporting a successful conclusion and will continue to ask both governments in Pristina and Belgrade to continue making all possible efforts to make progress in that dialogue. We'll continue to help in this regard”, Cassanoff said.
