This message was conveyed by Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Western Balkans Alexander Kasanoff in Albania on the 5th anniversary of the SPAK.
He said the “failure to realise this risks halting the most successful fight against crime and corruption in Albanian history and the loss of most experienced professionals”.
According to him, SPAK is at one of the most reliable institutions in Albania, but cannot solve all of the country's problems, as fighting corruption is everyone's task
“Justice will go to the spot. Nobody's above the law. Unless you give responsibility to citizens, your actions should be brought accountable to justice. These processes, bringing justice forward is essential to building a good justice system. Independent institutions must be effective. The independence of the SPAK remains essential. The SPAK is among the most reliable institutions in Albania. Duman's SPAK cannot solve all of Albania's problems. Other institutions must also show courage and dignity. Fighting corruption is the duty of all”.
Kasanoff stressed that “over the five years of SPAK we have seen the future in hopes that a more democratic future is possible”.
Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Western Balkans Alexander Kasanoff's visit to Albania comes at the 5th anniversary of the SPAK and five months after being appointed by the US State Department to the post.
