With a solemn ceremony held in the presence of top state representatives, diplomatic choirs, local and foreign organisations, academy, civil society and media, solemn acceptance of the task of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo between the outgoing chairman, Mrs. Grace Caka Nimani and elected Mayor, Mr. Nexhami Rexhepi, whose mandate begins on December 31st, 2024.
In her address, President Caka ʹ Nimani, after explaining the importance of the Constitutional Court for the protection of the values of democracy and the historical weight and symbol of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, among other things, stressed that “The protection of this constitution is not simply a task. Protection of this Constitution is the highest act of patriotism of every citizen of the Republic of Kosovo, every public servant, every senior public official, especially judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo.” Mayor Caka-Niman, thank fellow judges, judge staff and all partners who have supported the Court in its progress over the years.
In his speech, President-elect of the Constitutional Court, Mr. Nexmi Rexhepi, after thanking President Gresa Caka Nimani and Judge Selvette Gerjaliu '% Krasniqi for devoted service in defence of constitutionality in the country in case of completing their mandate, among other things, said that, “the independence of judicial power is the cornerstone of democracy and is essential for building the principle of division of powers, for the materialisation of the rule of law and for the protection of human rights” He then said that, “we all share the firm belief that, in a constitutional democracy, no power is supreme only the Constitution is supreme. So the Constitutional Court's role and duty is to protect and preserve the supremeity of the Constitution”. In the end, he thanked all judges of the Constitutional Court “for the confidence granted to be the first among the equals”.
