South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol declared the state of emergency.
In an unprecedented television speech late at night, he said the move was necessary to protect the country from North Korean communist forces and eliminate anti-state elements.
Yoon said the decision was made to remove pro-korean forces from the country and protect liberal constitutional order. The extraordinary “situation aims to root out pro-korean forces and defend the constitutional order of freedom,” said Yoon in a televised speech.
Yoon stressed that there was no choice but to be directed into the state of emergency, but in his speech he did not show what concrete measures would be taken.
As reported by the South Korean news agency Yonhap , the president accused the opposition of <x0 sub-active anti-states planning a rebellion”.
