The security situation in Kosovo is fragile and with stable potential of escalation, says KFOR Commander Enrico Bundani, as he adds that the terrorist attack on Iber Lipec has violated the security situation in the country.
Major General Boardan, who in October officially took over the post of NATO mission chief in Kosovo, underscores KFOR's importance under current circumstances.
“still has work to do to ensure the fulfillment of the right conditions to maintain a safe and stable environment, including those that are primarily political in nature. With that, I am referring to the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and the importance of moving it forward. Therefore, KFOR will continue to retain its task of ensuring security for all people living in Kosovo; and through the presence and daily activities throughout Kosovo, it will continue to create room for political dialogue to ensure a long-term resolution of the remaining” issues, he says in Kosovo's written interview.
Unresolved issues between Kosovo and Serbia, and dezinforms in the region, as he says, are making Kosovo have a stable potential for escalation.
The latest “Sulmi in the Iber-Lepenc water channel highlights the vulnerability of the security situation in Kosovo... KFOR will work closely with Kosovo security organisations and the international community in support of security regarding the upcoming elections early next year. If the situation requires it, NATO also has the capacity to immediately reinforce KFOR through various reserve forces units, in a very short notice to move.” It also speaks of the opening of the Ibër Bridge, which it says KFOR maintains a transparent and consistent approach, stressing that any decision should be made through dialogue with the international community.
The “Bridge of Ibrit political and non-military issues” highlights KFOR commander.
