The Pentagon reported that the United States currently has “roughly two thousand” troops in Syria, more than twice the previous total found 900 members, a Defence Department spokesman said Thursday.
“There are diplomatic and operational security factors often in our deployments and some of those numbers, and [it's] clearly the case” said Pentagon Press Secretary Major General Patrick Ryder, who added that all two thousand troops in Syria are there to fight against I SIS reports television CNN.
“Sic I understand, and as explained to me, these additional forces are considered to be temporary rotational forces, which are designed to meet the mission's changing demands, while the 900 basic distributors are in long-term dislocation” ) the spokesman Ryder next said on Thursday.
A State Department spokesman said an American delegation is in Syria on Friday for meeting with Syria's provisional governing authorities. This is the first US summit visit since the collapse of former President Bashar al-Assad, who has fled to Syria.
American troops are focused on efforts to counter I The SIS, one of the key issues facing the international community following the collapse of the Assad regime. American officials repeatedly stressed that I The SIS should not be able to use the transition in Syria to rebuild itself.
When asked by CNN television why the Pentagon had not discovered the exact number of American troops in Syria earlier, spokesman Ryder denied there was any attempt to disturb the actual number and said he learned the exact figure only Thursday before going to the press conference.
“The point of explanation is sensitivity from a diplomatic and security perspective of the operation” he added, refusing to go into more detail about diplomatic factors.
