Trump, its effects on Kosovo economic processes

The chairman of the American Economic Ode in Kosovo, Arian Zeka, tells Kosovo that during Trump's first mandate, the focus has been on economic normalisation between Kosovo and Serbia, as it according to him affects attracting investments. Until Zeka believes that this will remain a priority even after 2025, following the return to power of this Trump.

While he stresses that they continue to welcome the 2020 agreement, which says there are good provisions which lead to a comprehensive solution, which would end with Serbia's recognition of Kosovo.

The US economic “Oda economically over the past four years has called on the Government of the Republic of Kosovo to focus on implementing the agreement on economic normalisation between Kosovo and Serbia on September 4th 2020, unfortunately neither the interest of the Government of Kosovo, subsequently nor of other acts has been in implementing the provisions of this agreement. But, we had welcomed the agreement in 2020, and we still believe that the agreement has good provisions which would help that through economic normalisation both Kosovo and Serbia manage to solve the other problems they have, which enable or lead to a comprehensive solution that would end with the recognition of Kosovo on the part of Serbia”, Zeka points out.

Even law affairs connoisseur Florin Lata says it is possible that the 2020 agreement will be re-activated, if there is will from the United States, President Trump.

The “is possible to reactivate, because there is not after any major development that may have impact, so that that agreement is considered invalid. So, if there's going to be a U.S. will, President Trump, I think they're going to sit at the table again. US involvement will directly have a more positive and accelerated effect on finding a permanent choice with Serbia”, Lata says.

On the other hand, economic connoisseur Mustafe Kadrijaj also says that with President Trump, it is expected to affect the country's economy as well.

This is on a global level, and it certainly has the impact even at regional level, and in Kosovo. While, at the level of Kosovo, when talking about economic impacts, it is possible to influence the above topics mentioned... while, when we talk about the 2020 agreements, I appreciate that those who have economic interest, I appreciate that they are welcome for the state of Kosovo, and nothing would be harmful to living”, Kadrija says.

Republican candidate in presidential elections Donald Trump, has been declared the 47th president of the United States, securing about 276 Electoral College votes.

In the November 5th race were Democrat Kamala Harris, currently vice president of America and Republican Donald Trump, who was president from 2017 to 2021.

Meanwhile, Trump's victory has been hailed by world leaders. Even in Kosovo, Trump was congratulated by institutional party leaders.

Kosovo has enjoyed US support, over the years, regardless of who has been leading it.

September 4, 2020, agreement:

Former Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti and Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, have signed agreements on 4 September 2020 for economic normalisation at the White House, in the presence of President Donald Trump.

Continent points of the agreement signed by the Kosovo side:

Both sides will implement the agreement on the Belgrade-Pristina highway, signed on February 14th, 2020.

Both sides will implement the Belgrade-Pristina railway agreement signed on February 14th, 2020. Furthermore, the two sides will be devoted to a feasibility study for the possibilities of connecting Belgrade-Pristina railway infrastructure to a deep sea port in the Adriatic.

Kosovo (Pristina) and Serbia (Belgrade) will work with the US International Finance Development and EXIM Corporation, in memorandums of understanding to operate these:

- Peace membership.

- Pristina-Merdare Railway Link

- Nis-Pristina rail line

-Security of finance for credit support required for small- and medium-sized enterprises

- Additional bilateral projects

-Full international in Belgrade, Serbia, the US International Financial Development Corporation.

Both sides will open and operation the facility at the joint Merdare border crossing.

Both sides will join the “mini-Schengen area”, announced by Serbia, Albania and Northern Macedonia in October of 2019 and will take full advantage of it.

Both sides will recognise diplomas and professional certificates each other.

Both sides would agree to work with the US Department of Energy and other subjects of the American Government in a feasibility study, with the aim of joint possession of the Lake of Weyman, as a safe supply of water and energy.

Both sides will multiply their energy sources.

Both sides will ban the use of 5G equipment, provided by incredible vendors, on their communication networks. Where such devices are already available, the two sides are engaged in removing them and other efforts of time mediation.

Both sides will increase control of air passengers, sharing information between each other and within the overall framework of co-operation with the US in the Balkans, and will engage in technological updates, combating malicious activities, implementing and operational systems provided by the US, for control and information, including: PISCES, APIS, ATS-G and STEP.

Both sides vow to defend and promote religious freedoms, including the resumption of interreligious communication, the protection of religious sites, and the implementation of judicial decisions related to the Serbian Orthodox Church, as well as the continuation of property returns without inheritance from the Holocaust period and the non-require Jewish property.

Both sides pledge to speed up efforts to locate and identify the remains of missing persons. Both sides commit to identifying and implement long and lasting solutions for refugees and internally displaced persons. Both sides commit to determining a point of contact, which will lead these efforts within their respective ministries and coordinate these efforts between Belgrade and Pristina, and update the data for the number of cases resolved and those under way each year.
