The former head of the Albanian National Council in the Presevo Valley, Ragmi Mustaf, has reacted sharply to Serbia's Supreme Court's decision not to condemn Aleksandar Vulin, the former defence minister, currently deputy prime minister of Serbia, for his statements named as discrimination and denigrative to Albanians.
In a Facebook post, Mustafi stressed that, “when Serbia's Supreme Court with the firm of Judge Dragana Marinkovovic, chooses to close its eyes to the flagrant discrimination and the deignive language of Aleksandar Vulin, does nothing but highlight a sad reality: the justice system in Serbia continues to be a hostage to politics. ”
Mustaf highlighted the use of the term “Albanian” from the vulin, labeling it an effort for the “to lower the dignity of Albanians, disfellowshipped, criminalised and lead to a deep ethnic divide. ”
He criticised the court's decision, which, rather than punishing the deignive language, has defended it.
The Supreme Court's decision leads to Serbia's Constitutional Court,” stated, stressing that after that step, the case will be sent to the European Court for Human Rights in Strasbourg, as he said, “to ask for what is denied today in Serbia”.
Mustaf, who has filed this indictment since August 2019, said the issue represents a major test for the Serbian justice system.
“This is not just a legal battle, it is a battle for dignity, for the rights of Albanians and for their respect,” he wrote, concluding that for him and the community he represents, “Strasbourg will be a arena where we will earnestly seek what is denied in Serbia today. ”
