Secretary - General NATO, Mark Rutte, has said the military alliance helps in “advancing US interests”.
This while congratulating Donald Trump for his victory.
He said in a statement:
I look forward to working with him again to advance peace through force through NATO.
Through NATO, the US has 31 friends and allies helping advance US interests, enhancing American power and protecting American security.
Together, NATO allies represent half of the world's economic power and half of the world's military power.
We face an increasing number of global challenges, from a more aggressive Russia to terrorism, strategic competition with China, as well as the growing alignment of China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran.
Joint work through NATO helps prevent aggression, protect our common security and support our economies.
President-elect Trump showed a strong US leadership during his first term in office a mandate that changed the course of defence spending in Europe, improved the distribution of the transatlantic burden and strengthened the Alliance's capacity”.
